We understand that availability on Chromebook is important to our users, and we have put a lot of thought into this request.

Minecraft's purpose is to build a better world through the power of play. This means that we need to make Minecraft: Education Edition available on the devices that students use in classrooms. As we are able to solve technical issues for new platforms, we will be happy to release them to customers.

This isn't possible for Minecraft Education Edition since it doesn't support Linux, but I believe it's possible in theory to run retail Minecraft on a a Chromebook by doing a side-by-side install of a more vanilla Linux distribution. You could check with your IT department to see if they will help wkth a trail run of this on a Chromebook to see if it works. Ex: https://ubuntu.com/tutorials/install-ubuntu-on-chromebook#1-overview

There is demand for Minecraft Education Edition to be able to run on Chromebook and Chrome OS (e.g. Neverware CloudReady).

This absolutely makes sense from an educational perspective (and I completely understand not all systems running Chrome OS and not all Chromebooks can be supported).

There is an existing thread on this that has been going for 2 years now. The lack of progress is disappointing.
