Our latest release of Minecraft: Education Edition 1.9 brings some fun new updates:
Available on more versions of Windows
If you are on Windows 10 1703 or earlier please use the desktop version of Minecraft: Education Edition 1.9
Based on community requests to support more versions of Windows, we are excited to introduce the availability of Minecraft: Education Edition for Windows Desktop as part of Version 1.9 Minecraft: Education Edition is now easier to update and deploy via SCCM or Intune, and is compatible with earlier versions of Windows.
Cats, pandas, and scaffolding!
Cats, pandas, bamboo, and scaffolding blocks are now available in Minecraft: Education Edition. If you and your students have been waiting for these to show up in your school’s edition of Minecraft, the wait is over.
Features from Minecraft Bedrock versions 1.9 and 1.8
New stair, slab, and wall variants have been added, along with new sign types and flowers. To see the full list of features from the 1.9 and 1.8 Bedrock editions which are available as part of this release, check out the change logs here and here. (Note that experimental features listed in these change logs are not included in Minecraft: Education Edition.)
This release also includes various fixes to address known issues and help improve usability and stability of the game. Some specific fixes include:
- Agent placing water crash
- "Make visible to LAN" toggle functionality
- Does not install on Windows 10 version 1511 and earlier
- Failed multiplayer connection on Windows 10 1607
- Certain languages not displaying properly in-game
